Green Dorm Room Certification

What is the Green Dorm Room Certification Program? The Green Dorm Room Certification Program is a way to inspire the University of South Carolina's students to practice sustainable habits and contribute to the university's commitment to the environment. Through gaining the different levels of certification, room residents will collect prizes and show off their achievements and their own commitment to the environment. You will participate in a simple audit process in which they will have to comply with a list of green standards. Your audit will be given by your building's EcoRep who will be a resource of environmental knowledge and provide helpful advice in achieving your goals. The audit itself will be based on the everyday habits of you and your roommates. The idea is to reduce the amount of energy used, waste created, and chemicals put into the environment through these "greener" habits. In no time, these habits will be second nature and make a surprising impact on the campus's and community's environment.

 

The levels of certification are:

1: Mist Green

2: Light Green

3: True Green

4: Ever Green

How to have your room certified "green"

 

1. Complete the application and checklist online or submit a paper copy to your EcoRep.

2. The checklist and corresponding resources can be found in the "Green Dorm Room Program Manual.

3. Your EcoRep will then schedule a time to complete a room audit to ensure your compliance with the items you selected on the checklist.

4. After the room audit is completed you will be given a window cling to show off your certification level.
